Katie Lane is a Knoxville native who received a B.A. from the University of Virginia. She earned her J.D., magna cum laude, at Washington and Lee University, and was elected to the Order of the Coif, an honor society. During law school, she served on the editorial board of the Washington & Lee Law Review. After law school, Lane practiced law with Hunton and Williams in Richmond, Virginia (and later the Knoxville office of Hunton and Williams) with a corporate and securities law practice. She left private practice to serve as corporate counsel for Knoxville-based Jewelry Television.

Katie joined the Office of General Counsel in 2009. She maintains a broad business and transactional practice focusing on matters involving real estate, gifts and estates, tax issues, contract review, alumni affairs and employee benefits issues.
