Aziz M. Ahmad
Associate General Counsel
Aziz Ahmad came home to Knoxville to join the Office of the General Counsel in 2021. He maintains a broad business and transactional practice for the University, focusing on matters concerning sponsored research, research compliance, policy, immigration, contracts and procurement.
Aziz received a B.A. in biology from Transylvania University and both a J.D. and LL.M. in Intellectual Property (with an emphasis in Biotechnology) from the University of Dayton School of Law. He is admitted to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office as a registered patent attorney. Aziz has held legal and commercial roles throughout his career. As counsel and manager of corporate affairs for Osiris Therapeutics, Inc., a publicly traded regenerative medicine company, he supported the commercialization of several cellular therapy products by advising on transactional, intellectual property, compliance and other general corporate matters. Aziz then served Marathon Petroleum Corporation and its family of companies as counsel, supporting its operational components and business development initiatives while leading its corporate intellectual property practice.
