Aziz Ahmad joined the Office of the General Counsel in 2021. He maintains a broad business and transactional practice for the University, primarily focusing on matters concerning intellectual property and athletics. Previously, Aziz supported several other areas for the University, including sponsored research, research compliance, policy, procurement, information technology, privacy, and University-led collaborations.

Aziz received a B.A. in biology from Transylvania University and both a J.D. and LL.M. in Intellectual Property (with an emphasis in Biotechnology) from the University of Dayton School of Law. He is registered to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office. Aziz has held legal and commercial roles throughout his career. As counsel and manager of corporate affairs for a publicly traded regenerative medicine company, he supported the research, development, and commercialization of several cellular therapy products by advising on transactional, intellectual property, compliance, and other corporate matters. He joined UT after serving Marathon Petroleum Corporation, where he led its corporate intellectual property practice and provided counsel to its family of companies on operational and business development initiatives.
