Caitlyn Elam is a Knoxville native who received her B.A., summa cum laude, in political science from the University of Tennessee. She earned her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Tennessee College of Law where she served as a student materials editor of the Tennessee Law Review and member of Transactions: The Tennessee Journal of Business Law. After law school, Caitlyn practiced law with and became Shareholder at Lewis Thomason, PC in Knoxville where she focused her practice on representing both public and private entities in general civil litigation matters, including employment, healthcare liability, and torts.

Caitlyn joined the Office of General Counsel in 2022. Caitlyn handles litigation for the University in all forums – state and federal courts, and the Tennessee Claims Commission.
