Walt Schuler graduated from the University of Memphis, magna cum laude, with the degree of B.B.A. in international business. He received a J.D., cum laude, from Saint Louis University, with a certificate in health law with honors. In law school, he served on the editorial board of the Saint Louis University Law Journal and received the distinguished award for best student article among other honors.

After law school, Walt returned to Memphis to join the health care practice at the Bogatin Law Firm. He became a partner in that firm and later in its successor, Evans, Petree, Bogatin. He has argued cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit, the Tennessee Supreme Court and the Tennessee Court of Appeals. Schuler is also active in the Tennessee Bar Association’s Health Law Section (chair, 2012, executive council, 2008-present) and the Memphis Bar Association’s Health Law Section (chair, 2013, member of founding board, 2012-present), and is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association.

Schuler joined the Office of General Counsel in 2009 and brings extensive experience in a variety of health law matters, as well as business law, contracts, civil litigation and state and federal administrative law.
